Dear Sir/Madam:

Pursuant to the Louisiana Public Records Law, R.S. § 44:1 et seq., I request the production of the following public records:

1)            Complete and current records of any/all firearms known to be missing/stolen/unaccounted for, for any employee of the New Orleans Police Department for the time period of 1/1/2013 to 4/6/2018. This should include, but not be limited to, any firearm that was issued by the department, on loan to or assigned to the employee by NOPD or any other public agency, any personnel firearm or any firearm belonging to someone else that was taken while in the possession of any NOPD employee.

2)            Complete and current records/reports on each firearm covered under request #1 for the same time period as outlined in #1. This should include, but not be limited to, information on when the firearm was found to have been missing/stolen/unaccounted for, the location of the incident, the date of the incident, the time of the incident, the model and make of each firearm, the serial number of each firearm, a general description of each firearm (pistol, rifle, etc.), photographs and/or videos of the firearms and all remarks, review results and findings by investigators involving each firearm.

3)            Complete and current records which show the particular part of the operations or patrol manual for any/all employees of NOPD dealing with the rules/guidelines regarding their firearms responsibilities.

Please produce these records electronically in a format readily available to any citizen.

In accordance with R.S. § 44:32(C)(2), I request a waiver of fees associated with the production of the requested information as these requested records are for the public purpose of research as part of legitimate news gathering. However, if such a waiver is not granted and the cost of the production of these records exceeds $50, please notify me by email or phone (below).

If you deny any part of this request, please cite each specific exemption to the Louisiana Public Records Law that you have determined justifies the refusal to produce the records.  Please feel free to contact me at any time using the contact information below.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
