Request #20-893
  Closed

I request data related to the speed and/or duration of Mardi Gras parades for each of the past five years. I am not sure what data or records the city keeps on this subject, so this request includes several alternatives.

(1) The GPS data from the lead and final city vehicle for each parade during the Mardi Gras/Carnival season (beginning two weeks before Mardi Gras day) from the start to the conclusion of each parade. This data should have been collected in order to produce the Routewise app. This data should include, but not be limited to, the location of the vehicles at all points during the parade and the time at which that location was logged

(2) If (1) is not available for some or all of the years requested, I request the same data from at least one city vehicle in each parade.

(3) If (1) or (2) is not available for some or all of the years requested, I request any documentation of the start time and conclusion of each parade, which I believe is maintained by NOPD.

Thank you and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Mr. Adelson:

Please be advised that records responsive to your request have been compiled and are available for your review, or you may purchase the records on a compact disc for $25.00.

Per the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, new GPS devices were used in 2020 and after the first few parades were clearly malfunctioning. Tracking for routewise.nola.gov was done manually beginning Friday, Feb. 14. The data provided in response to your request is the GPS data from the trackers, which NOHSEP considers to be inaccurate. Finally, there is no data for 2016 and 2017.

To review or purchase your records in person, please contact the City Attorney's Office Public Records Team at 504-658-9800 to schedule a day and time.
